Mame how many buttons

Most common arcades have four, five, or up to six buttons. But in very rare cases, we find games with 8 buttons. Its genre is a Shoot em up game. Its gameplay is simple. It uses two buttons in which both are for shooting one launches projectile missiles while the other one launches special types of bombs. This is a released improvement of the previous version Aero Fighter 2. It was released in by a video system and developed by SNK systems.

Its gameplay involves an extraterrestrial scene which is the continuation of the story of its previous version after defeating the aliens at the last level. It also uses two controls one for shooting while the other one for special bombs. The game was developed by SNK in The game offers the user experience of combat. And the best part of this game is its mirror versus multiplayer mode where you and a friend can challenge each other in combat. The gameplay has more of a story, like a plot, but involves fighting its opponents in a versus like mode.

Thus the game uses the Japanese architectural button layout making it use eight buttons. The game was created by SNK in Normally the opponent was the computer but it also had a multiplayer mode.

There were two types of gameplays in which one was the tournament option. You said you'll be running MAME and some classic console emulators. I prefer 7 but it can be wired in parallel to another button just for layout. I think my instruction card explains it the bestest:. If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem. I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

As far as MAME goes, none use more than 6 until you get into oddball things like majhong or the keyboard on Thayer's Quest. By default, MAME assumes you have 6 arranged like: Stick with that and just about everything will be mapped correctly without having to do any remapping.

After actually using it for a while though, I prefer using the first three buttons on the top row and hitting the first button in the second row with my thumb.

That said, I play a lot of Steam games on my cab and there are a couple games I needed an 8th button for.

It's just less complicated and looks better. If you plan to hook it up to a console or play steam games, it's good to have the same 8 buttons the commercially available fight stick or fight pads have.

The two extra buttons are basically just shortcuts to post button combos. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug. Quote from: Malenko on August 03, , am. I'll reiterate from my other post: Quote from: 8BitMonk on July 29, , am. Hi, I'm building up a MAME vertical monitor cocktail cabinet well, initially with a in-1 board running , which came with two buttons only.

Davefjedi Posted April 10, Let's say for some slightly more modern schmups designed for vertical screens The reason I'm being "stingy" with the buttons is not just for aesthetics, but it will be hard work fitting six buttons in my console, and I don't want to go cutting heaps of holes in the steel plate for no good reason :.

Posted April 14, For a vert cab, 3 buttons should be all good. Unless of course you plan on MAMEing it and installing an entire new control panel on the other side of the cab and then use screen switching to play horizontal games as well :. Super Moderator. It can all be remapped in ra anyway so no biggie at the end of the day. But I agree with barbudreadmon that a stick does not work well with anything beyond 16 bit consoles..

Pi 3B , 64 GB Sandisk ultra flashdrive, 19 systems, hand picked classic gaming gems :- Dual shock 4v2. I have no problems using my arcade panel for snes games and psx games it takes a bit of getting use too but like anything else your muscle memory adapts. I had thought about this layout because of the PlayStation. Now, in reality, most games I play there from the PlayStation era are arcade ports which don't need as many buttons so, in reality, in yet to use the full 8 buttons on a game.

The only advantage I get is that, for 4 button arcade games I can have the 4 buttons in a row as intended in some Neo Geo layouts, whereas when playing 6 button games I can use two rows of 3 buttons as in those original cabinets as well. I have to agree six action buttons per player and then a pair of start buttons for and arcade cab it really the way to go..

But some games just will not work.. It comes down to the button usage. Some games that are console only will work just fine on a cabinet.. Also if you want to go with a button layout that has eight buttons on it for each player..
